a clearing deep within the forest

Le cortége de la Belle et du Bel (Procession of The Fair and Beautiful)

The fairest and most beautiful creatures of the forest gather to perform an ancient ritual. The Raven, the harbinger of death, casts his ominous gaze upon the creatures as they process before him. Only the fairest and most beautiful of all will be chosen to dance before the Hunters, pacifying their lustful rage for death.

From the headwaters high up in the Majestic Mountains, the Crystal River flows giving life to the forest creatures below.

Acte I, Scène I - Le Grand Bal

Le Château Grand (Within The Castle Great)

The curtain draws on The Great Throne Room filled with subjects from all over the realm. A fast waltz entertains the subjects while all await the reveal of the new prince. Excitement and anticipation fill the air, but not all are enthused. Dissention wafts in the air.

The wise old owls descend from their ancient perches to examine the child prince. They gaze into the face of a deep mystery; their souls are stirred into an ancient dance.

Bouffon (The Donkey Jests)

After the owls stirring scene, the donkey decides to interject some foolery to lighten the heart and entertain the realm’s subjects.

Le corbeau (The Raven)

The Raven, in shrouded array, appears to “pay” homage to the prince. Through crafty words he works his mischievousness, pitting the forest creatures against one another. His attempt to steal away the child prince fails.

Valse de Crépuscule (Twilight Tolls)

The castle uproar is calmed by the donkey who signals to the musicians to play a waltz. Is this the workings of a spell?

Berceuse (Lullaby)

Soft moonbeams peak through untouched spaces. The mighty forest trees hover over the cool forest floor. Deep into the forest the owls have flown. They linger only for a moment to present a gift to the new prince. Then softly they take flight, leaving them to their refuge. A mother’s lullaby woos the child to sleep.

A bustling village prepares for the harvest celebrations. A peculiar commoner seems to be the center of attention.

The Raven, intrigued by what he has seen, revels in his find and scurries off to warn the hunters.

As the villagers continue to prepare for the festival, this peculiar commoner takes notice of a group of children at play.

Marche des chasseurs (March of The Hunters)

No sooner has the village sat down at the feast, that the distant drums of the Hunters are heard. Suddenly the Hunters and their entourage are upon the village, wreaking havoc. Who will arise as the village’s champion? The fate of all is at hand.

Voleurs dans la nuit (Thieves In The Night)

Enraged, the Raven sounds the horns of war. He summons all the Wicked to his side and like thieves in the night, they rampage through the forest towards The Castle Great – the last stronghold of the faithful.

Le Triomphant (The Triumphant)

The army of the Crystal City arrives to restrain the Wicked’s advance. The Prince appears and raises the faithful to life and vanquishes Death.

Couronnement (Coronation)

All creatures great and lowly are present at the coronation of The Prince. The Great Throne room shines like never before. All that was beautiful and fair is restored. The forest exuberantly rejoices that a good King now sits upon the throne.
